Defining Breast Lift Plastic Surgery

Defining Breast Lift Plastic SurgeryMastopexy, also known as breast lift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that enables the breasts to look more youthful by elevating their position and making the skin and underlying tissue tighter.

This surgery is advisable for women who have excessively sagging breasts because of loose skin and weakened muscle and tissue.

In case the nipples are also pointing downwards due to drooping breasts, the breast lift will involve repositioning the nipples to a raised level. Board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak provides breast lift to patients in Houston, Texas and other cities and towns in this glorious part of the country.

Who is an Ideal Candidate?

Breast lift surgery does not increase size as such. If the patient seeks a larger breast size as well as wants to address drooping breasts, she may consider breast lift and breast augmentation in combination. The surgeon will evaluate the patient’s medical condition, breast anatomy, and her cosmetic goals prior to suggesting the ideal treatment approach.

Patients who have some degree of skin elasticity in the breasts can attain more effective results with breast lift surgery. The ideal candidate for this plastic surgery will be a woman who is a non-smoker or dedicated to quitting smoking for many weeks pre and post surgery.

Reasons for Sagging Breasts

Breasts may droop excessively because of one or more of the following causes:

  • Breast volume loss after pregnancy or nursing
  • Significant weight loss
  • Sedentary lifestyle, very heavy breasts or gravity leading the breasts to sag
  • Aging-related skin elasticity loss
  • Genetic factors

Surgical Procedure

Standard Breast Lift

The surgeon will place an anchor-shaped incision in this technique. This approach involves an incision surrounding the areola, and another incision placed vertically down to the base of the breast. The surgeon will place a third incision horizontally along the crease of the breast. This traditional breast lift surgery can help significantly in reducing droopiness in the lower part of the breast.

Doughnut Breast Lift

The Doughnut breast lift technique involves a lesser amount of skin removal in comparison to a standard breast lift. This means that the downtime is minimal and scarring is significantly decreased.

The surgeon places a circumferential incision surrounding the areola to eliminate a limited amount of tissue. Women with small sized breasts can be ideal candidates for this technique. Doughnut mastopexy can also involve the reshaping of the areola.

Lollipop Breast Lift

The Lollipop breast lift is a vertical mastopexy technique that lies somewhere in-between the doughnut lift and the standard breast lift. The surgeon will place an incision around the areola. They will also place another tiny incision down to the crease of the breast. This technique can offer a moderate amount of lift to the breasts.

Recovery

The breast lift surgery usually involves a downtime of around a week. The patient can expect mild pain and discomfort in the initial days in the incision areas. This can be addressed via prescription pain drugs. The patient will need to wear a special surgical bra for some weeks to enable the breasts to attain their new shape firmly.
