Candidates
Children and adults can have this procedure performed if they are in good health and have realistic goals for this procedure. Children should be older than 6 years of age to ensure their ears a fully developed and the cartilage is stable.
Earlobe Repair
For people that are unhappy with their large, stretched out or even split earlobes may be interested in earlobe repair surgery. Earlobe reduction is used to correct sagging or enlarged earlobes. An earlobe repair can correct the stretched or split earlobes. Dr. Hustak can evaluate your earlobes and suggest a surgical plan that will address your concerns.
Surgery and Recovery
This procedure can be done in the office under local or at the surgery center under general anesthesia. Most mature children in their early teens can have it done in-office under local anesthetic. Dr. Hustak can recommend what she thinks is best for your case.
Following the surgery, you may experience slight discomfort, but pain medication can manage that. Be sure to follow your post-op instruction that Dr. Hustak provides you. Stitches and/or tape will stay in place until Dr. Hustak removes them at your post-op appointment at one week. Be careful with your ears as they heal avoid any contact that can disrupt the healing. Any trauma to the ear while healing may require a secondary surgery to fix.
