Surgery and Recovery
Brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to remove loose skin and excess fatty deposits in your upper arms. Depending on the amount of excess skin and fat, your scar may be contained within your armpit or may extend down the inside of your upper arm, hidden near a groove your biceps muscle makes.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately two hours to complete. Liposuction can be combined with it in some occasions. You are allowed to return home the same day unless performed in addition to other procedures at the same time. Steri-strips or surgical glue is placed to incisions to support them while healing. All sutures are absorbable. Ace wrap bandages or compression garments are placed at the time of surgery. Swelling is normal. Compression is continued for 1-2 weeks. You are restricted from lifting or exercise for three weeks. Once incisions heal, aggressive scar massage is started to minimize the scars.
Your upper arm contour can be dramatically improved with this procedure. The scars fade over time and are disguised by their placement.
