Types of Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid lift surgery is a simple procedure which can shave off years of your face. Upper eyelid procedure benefits patients that have low or sagging upper lids. The eyelids begin reducing the field of vision. Lower eyelid lift surgery is designed to correct puffy or saggy lower eyelids.
While upper eyelid procedure only involves the removal of sagging skin, the lower eyelid plastic surgery removes fat deposits present under the eye as well. These deposits when removed in combination with sagging skin give the face a firm, smooth, and younger looking appearance above the cheek.
The surgeon will first create an incision under the lower eyelashes for performing lower eyelid surgery. This incision is made in a discreet place carefully hidden from plain view. Excess skin, fat and muscle are removed as per the surgical plan.
In some cases, fat is redistributed to minimize uneven swelling or puffiness. Muscle laxity will also be corrected during the surgery. The incision made by the surgeon will quickly heal within the folds of the natural creases surrounding the eyelid.
Transconjunctival lower eyelid surgery is an effective procedure for patients with less pronounced under-eye bags. The surgeon will simply remove fat pockets without removing any skin in this type of surgery. Several tiny incisions are required to carry out the procedure. There is no visible scarring since the incisions are made in the lower eyelid.
Upper eyelid lift cosmetic surgery procedure allows the surgeon to remove excess fatty tissue and skin which may create the appearance of inflated and droopy eyelids. Incision lines, during upper eyelid surgery, are made in the natural folds of the upper lids. Any scarring is hidden as a result. The surgeon will trim away excess skin that obstructs vision or contributes to a tired and droopy appearance.
The eye muscles may be repositioned in some cases. Your surgeon will aim for a more youthful look by lifting and reattaching the remaining skin. Incisions are closed using fine sutures. The goal of the procedure is to leave patients with refreshed looking skin.
More experienced surgeons avoid giving their patients the unnatural ‘wide awake’ look. Female cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak receives patients from Houston, Texas, and nearby areas for eyelid lift or blepharoplasty.
