Labiaplasty
Houston, TX

Women may have enlarged labia due to genetics, childbirth, or other reasons. Labiaplasty can improve both the function and appearance of the labia, relieving discomfort during exercise, sexual activity, and improving hygiene. It is important for women to know that there is no “common” labia or “normal appearance” to genitals. Each woman is unique so it is important to seek someone that understands this procedure and can make you feel comfortable and welcome to openly discuss your concerns. Dr. Hustak can talk with and examine you in a warm and welcoming atmosphere and suggest a procedure that may be best for you.

Labia Majora Reduction

This procedure can be done under local anesthetic in the office as a minor procedure, or it can be done under general anesthesia at a hospital or surgical center, often in combination with other procedures. Excision will take approximately an hour while liposuction may take up to 90 minutes. With excision, you are placed in disposable undergarments with padding to absorb any drainage. With liposuction, you may be placed in a compression garment. Sutures are absorbable. Patients can go home the same day. You are kept on a modified bed rest for 5 days followed by restrictions on strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 3 weeks total. You must refrain from intercourse for 6 weeks. Most patients are uncomfortable for the first week, which slowly improves with pelvic rest and pain medication. Most women return to work during the second or third week as long as their jobs aren’t too taxing. The resulting scar is largely inconspicuous.

The procedure takes 30 to 90 minutes depending on complexity. What Are the Benefits?

Labiaplasty is a procedure that offers both aesthetic and functional benefits, helping women feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies. Many women choose to undergo labiaplasty to reduce discomfort caused by excess labial tissue, which can lead to irritation, pain during physical activities, or challenges with personal hygiene. Additionally, the procedure can enhance the appearance of the labia, leading to increased self-esteem and comfort in intimate settings. Whether for physical relief or aesthetic enhancement, labiaplasty empowers women to feel their best.

Frequently Asked Questions?

Recovery varies from person to person, but most women are able to return to their normal routine within 1 to 2 weeks. You will, however, need to refrain from sexual intercourse for at least 6 weeks after your procedure.

Even though Labiaplasty is a simple procedure, delicate tissues are involved that must be well cared for during the recovery period. Full recovery from a Labiaplasty takes six weeks, and during that time, it is crucial to follow your instructions.

Most patients will be advised to minimize walking for the first 2-3 days.

1 Week Following Surgery: Pain often subsides to the point where most patients no longer require pain medication. However, swelling and bruising may persist. Many women begin to feel well enough to walk and perform normal physical activity

AFTER SURGERY ONLY- a stool softener such as Duloclax or Colace (taken twice/day) may be helpful. If you have not had a bowel movement after 3 days, drink “smooth move” tea, and/or take Senakot, Miralax or other laxative if needed.

It is important to avoid exercise, strenuous activity, or heavy lifting over 5 lbs for one month following Labiaplasty. These activity restrictions will lower risk of bleeding and increased swelling at the surgical site

Bruising is also normal after the Labiaplasty procedure and will subside in a few weeks. Wear Comfy Clothes. To reduce discomfort and pain after your procedure, we recommend that you wear loose clothing. Tight-fitting clothes such as leggings or yoga pants can rub against the labia and cause pain.

Swelling is one of the first postoperative side effects of Labiaplasty surgery, though it typically subsides within a few days. After one week, the majority of Labiaplasty swelling should have resolved. To reduce swelling we recommend using a cold compress (not directly on the skin)
