What is arm lift plastic surgery (Brachioplasty)?

Arm Lift Plastic Surgery

Sagging or loose skin in your arms can compromise your youthful upper body contours. An arm lift cosmetic surgery, clinically known as brachioplasty is a safe and proven solution to this condition. If you have undergone a significant weight loss recently, or your upper arms have skin laxity due to aging which makes you self-conscious, you can benefit from arm lift surgery.

Your surgeon will determine your candidacy during the pre-op consultation, and prepare a customized upper arm lift surgery plan. Board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak provides arm lift surgery to patients in Houston, Texas and surrounding communities.

Arm Lift Technique and Benefits

During your arm lift plastic surgery procedure, your surgeon will trim away loose, hanging skin in the upper arms and may also remove unwanted fat deposits. Thereafter, they will pull your remaining skin taut to create tighter and smoother arm contours. You will appear more youthful after the surgery and your arms will complement your body more attractively.

Your cosmetic surgeon may recommend a full upper arm lift surgery in most cases, but sometimes only a mini or partial arm lift may be required. Depending on your natural arm contours and your personal aesthetic goals, your surgeon will help you decide the right procedure. The advantage with arm lift is that even a moderate improvement in your arm appearance can make your complete figure look slimmer and more youthful.

Upper Arm Lift Procedure

Your surgeon will begin the procedure by creating a discreetly placed incision along your upper arm. The length and placement of the incision will depend on your amount of skin laxity and where the excess skin flap is located. In a traditional brachioplasty surgery, the incision may run from your elbow to armpit. The surgeon will create either a Z-shaped or curved incision to minimize subsequent scarring.

An extended brachioplasty may be performed if you have substantially loose and hanging skin in the upper arms. The incision in this case may begin from your armpit and go down along the side your breast. A larger amount of excess skin can removed through this incision.

Mini or Partial Arm Lift Procedure

If you are looking only for a minor skin tightening in your upper arms, your surgeon may recommend a mini arm lift. While the surgical technique in this case remains the same, the length of the incision will be smaller. Through the incision, your surgeon will eliminate loose skin and excess fatty tissue to create a more desirable contour. The incision in this surgery may only be placed in the underarm so that the scarring will be mostly unnoticeable.

Recovery

Recovery period can vary depending on the extent of your arm lift surgery performed. Some swelling and bruising will occur in the first few days, but it will gradually resolve on its own. Your surgeon will prescribe mild pain meds to keep you comfortable in the first week.

You can possibly return to your normal routine in about a week to 10 days after the surgery. Female cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak receives patients from Houston, Texas and nearby areas for arm lift surgery.
