Buttock Augmentation Recovery
A majority of patients getting a butt augmentation plastic surgery performed are concerned with the amount of downtime it may involve. The recovery aspect becomes more important in case of buttock enhancement involving implants because it is a relatively more invasive procedure.
Board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak provides buttock augmentation to patients in Houston, Texas, and surrounding locations.
Downtime Involved at Different Stages
3 Days Following the Surgery
Patients may experience mild to moderate pain and tenderness in the incision area. Pain medications are generally enough to manage the pain. You should avoid sitting down, bending, or sleeping on your back till your surgeon says it’s alright to do so. You may be asked to wear compression garment in case liposuction was performed as well.
1 Week Following the Surgery
Pain and swelling will reduce greatly by this time. You should be able to perform minor physical tasks and start walking. Sitting and bending over should be minimized. Initial results of the procedure will become visible now.
2 Weeks Following the Surgery
You should be able to sit normally and sleep on your back. Swelling will continue even if walking will start to feel normal. Your cosmetic surgeon may clear you to return to a physically undemanding job.
3 – 4 Weeks Following the Surgery
Most bruising and swelling will resolve by now. The implant may continue to feel firm and tight. Most patients are cleared by now to perform light to moderate exercises.
5 – 6 Weeks Following the Surgery
Final results from the plastic surgery will become visible by now. Your surgeon will probably clear you to perform strenuous exercises as well.
Pain Management
It is normal to experience certain degree of pain. This should reduce on its own in 2 – 3 weeks. The severity of pain you feel will depend on your tolerance levels and the surgical technique used. Pain medications will be prescribed by your surgeon for helping you manage the pain.
Implant Settling
It is possible for the implant to settle at a higher position and feel firm after the buttock augmentation cosmetic surgery procedure. The implant will begin settling and softening in a more desirable position after a few weeks. You should get a more settled appearance in just 6 weeks.
Scarring
Butt augmentation procedure results in permanent scars. However, they are small in size if performed by a skilled cosmetic surgeon. The scars are also placed in discreet locations. You can use noninvasive laser treatments for minimizing scar appearance.
What to Avoid
You should avoid bending over, sitting, and lying on your back for a few weeks. In fact, you may not be able to sit for more than 15 minutes at a stretch following the plastic surgery.
Initial Sitting Posture
It’s vital to learn how to lie down or sit without placing excessive pressure on the buttocks. Your incisions will be able to heal better if you do this. Many patients prefer using a pillow under their thighs to sit without affecting the results of the procedure.
