Hours after the Surgery

Following vaginal rejuvenation plastic surgery, the patient will return to her private room to get dressed. The surgeon or the medical staff will advise on the post-operative care. The patient should have someone to drive her back home after the surgery. For the first few hours, she will not feel any pain or discomfort.

However, as the effect of anesthesia begins to wear off, some pain and discomfort will be experienced. The degree of pain will depend on the individual pain tolerance. The surgeon may prescribe pain meds to keep the patient comfortable in the first few days. In case of abnormally high pain, wound reopening or another concern, the patient should get in touch with the surgeon.

First Week after Surgery

In the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery, the patient should use ice pack or frozen pea therapy over the incision areas. This help to minimize bruising and swelling. She may perform light activities and simple routine tasks at home as long as no pressure or irritation is felt in the incision areas. Lifting of heavy weights should be avoided.

Loose clothing and cotton underwear must be worn initially. In about 72 hours after the surgery, she may resume regular activities, but avoid strenuous exercises. The friction to the incisions should be minimal. The patient may drive after two days, provided she is not taking narcotics for pain.

She can go back to the workplace in about four days, but continue to avoid rigorous physical activity. The ideal time to stay away from work would be about one week. Experienced female cosmetic surgeon Dr. Hustak receives patients from Houston, Katy, Texas, and nearby areas for vaginal rejuvenation.

Long-term Recovery

For about six weeks following the surgery, the patient will be on pelvic rest. This means tampons and sexual intercourse must be avoided during this period. Steam, sauna, bath tubs, and swimming in the lake or ocean must also be avoided. She should also refrain from horseback riding, cycling, jet skiing, and motorbikes during this period.

Discoloration and swelling in the treated areas will remain for at least one to two weeks or more. Numbness in the incision areas may be felt, which will gradually dissipate on its own. Scars will appear reddish for about three months, and will gradually soften and fade thereafter.

Once the swelling is resolved, the patient will be able to notice enhanced contour with tighter and smoother tissue in the labial area. Smoking should be avoided for several weeks during the recovery to minimize the risk of complications.
