Rhytidectomy or facelift surgery is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure that can take several years off the face to create an attractive, youthful look. A facelift may be combined with neck lift or upper face procedures such as eyelid lift to produce more effective results in some cases.
Facelift surgery involves removal of loose skin and excess fat deposits, and in some cases, underlying facial muscles may also be repositioned. An experienced surgeon will combine the principles of art and science to create aesthetically appealing yet sustainable and natural looking results.
Board certified and committed female plastic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak provides facelift to patients in Houston, Texas, and surrounding communities.
Candidacy
Any individual who is unhappy with the appearance of obvious aging signs on the face, sagging facial skin or loose of facial volume may be a suitable candidate for facelift plastic surgery. In general, people in the age group of 30 to 70 choose facelift surgery to restore a youthful face.
An ideal candidate for this procedure will have some amount of skin elasticity in the face as well as suppleness of facial skin. This will help to achieve more natural looking results. The candidate should have a strong underlying facial bone structure to support a deeper facelift.
Surgical Techniques
Based on the patient’s anatomical and cosmetic needs, the surgeon will determine the most effective facelift technique. Focused and fantastic female cosmetic surgeon Dr. Hustak receives patients from Houston, Texas, and nearby areas for facelift and various other procedures.
Endoscopic Facelift
This has emerged as a popular technique to perform facelift because it is less invasive. The procedure involves the use of a tiny camera that will be inserted into the deeper facial tissue through a small incision.
This will enable the surgeon to view the underlying facial structure on a monitor and perform a highly precise surgery without having to make a very large incision. This technique typically involves three minor incisions to remove excess skin and tissue and tighten sagging facial muscles.
Cutaneous Facelift
This is a limited procedure that may be recommended in cases where the patient only requires removal of excess facial skin. A long incision will be placed inconspicuously along the hairline. The surgeon will gently lift the skin through the incision and suture it at a raised position. No muscular structure changes are involved, which minimizes the risk.
SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) Facelift
SMAS technique can help to create more comprehensive results in a less invasive manner. The surgeon will remove excess skin as well as lift and tighten the weak muscle structure to create youthful facial contours. More sustainable and natural looking outcomes can be produced with the SMAS technique.
A partial or mini facelift may be performed for some patients who only need a minimal reduction of facial fine lines and small wrinkles, or just need a maintenance procedure. Dermal fillers or Botox injections may also sometimes be used along with mini facelift. In a traditional facelift, the patient may have to undergo a downtime of about a week to 10 days, but recovery will be much faster in a mini facelift.
