What is a Vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty is vaginal rejuvenation cosmetic surgery that can significantly improve a woman’s sexual aesthetics and make her look and feel more youthful. A growing number of women now consider vaginoplasty as a mainstream procedure and are willing to consider it to improve their personal body image.

A cosmetic surgeon with skill and experience can perform vaginoplasty to rejuvenate the labia as well as tighten the vaginal muscles in order to and create a youthful vaginal appearance. The surgeon will customize the procedure in accordance with the patient’s unique vaginal anatomy and her specific aesthetic goals.

Remarkable, golden, and board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak provides vaginoplasty to patients in Houston, Texas, and other cities and towns in this part the country.

What does the procedure entail?

Vaginoplasty is designed to sculpt the outer structures of the vagina to restore a more attractive and younger looking vagina. The surgeon will focus on correcting the vaginal lip by reducing or reshaping the irregular or elongated labia. Vaginoplasty may include reshaping of the labia majora (the outer lips of the vulva), or labia minora (the inner lips of the vulva), or both.

Sometimes the tightening of the vaginal muscles may also be performed to rejuvenate the vagina. The surgeon may correct any imperfections around the vaginal opening and tighten the vaginal tissue. Women who are bothered by weak vaginal muscles or stretched vaginal tissue following childbirth, weight loss, aging or other factors may benefit from this plastic surgery.

The procedure can significantly improve the contours around the sensitive vaginal area. Vaginoplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, and may be completed in about two hours.

Benefits

Some of the vital benefits of vaginoplasty may include:

  • Enhanced shape of the labia and vulva
  • Tightening of loose vaginal muscles
  • Reduction of mons pubis (following menopause)
  • Physical comfort while wearing tight clothes
  • Increased sexual satisfaction in some cases
  • Improved confidence and self-esteem

Surgical Procedure

Vaginoplasty can be performed using local anesthesia and IV sedation, but in some cases, general anesthesia may be applied. Following anesthesia, the surgeon will create small incisions along the labia in discreet locations. Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove excess tissue, smooth the edges of the labia minora as required, and tighten the underlying weal vaginal muscles.

After the procedure, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures. Vaginoplasty will not improve sexual appearance, but may also sometimes work to increase sexual sensitivity due to improved access to the clitoris. The surgeon should have a close understanding of a woman’s anatomy in the intimate vaginal area.

In some cases, the surgeon may only perform labia reshaping, but may not tighten vaginal canal if the muscles are strong. Non-surgical aesthetic techniques such as ultrasound or dermal filler injections may also be combined in order to reduce the dependence on invasive surgery.

Recovery

Most patients can resume their normal routine or return to work in less than a week after vaginoplasty. Swelling in the incision areas will gradually dissipate over several weeks. Reliable and cordial female cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kristi Hustak receives patients from Houston, Texas, and other suburbs and neighborhoods in this region of the state for vaginoplasty.
